Be inspired: What you know by 40...

... is to allow yourself to be inspired.

The knock on getting older is that you get crusty.  You can't teach an old dog new tricks they say.  The danger in getting older is that you feel so much like you've seen it all that you stop looking for anything new.

Well I feel inspired because two nights ago...
(Yes I'll take any opportunity to remind myself that I just spoke with Alicia Keys!)

But mostly I feel inspired because of www.cut50.org and the audacious, worthy goal of cutting incarceration in the U.S. by 50% in 10 years.  The impact of this campaign cannot be overstated.

Can you imagine the impact on the economy if the tens of billions of dollars spent every year to lock folks up was instead spent on schools, clean energy jobs, and mass transit?  Can you imagine the impact on society to have nearly a million men and women back home and in programs to support them in meeting their challenges and providing for their families?  Cutting the number of our incarcerated people buy 50%, if done right, if done the way folks at Cut50 are trying to do it with bi-partisan support, would be the biggest single social victory of our lifetimes.  And it would only be the beginning.  The positive reverberations would last for generations.

I am allowing myself to be inspired by the potential of #Cut50.  And as a result, this 30 days from 40 years old dog picked up my camera and my computer, wrote a new spoken word piece and did some acting, all for the first time in a long time, to make a video in support of Cut50.

I'm not getting paid for this.  I wasn't even asked to do it.  I just got inspired and rolled with it.  By 40 you know to run with inspiration where you find it...

If you get inspired, please sign the petition for JUSTICE REFORM NOW and spread the word!
