Review of Mass Transit Muse!

Mass Transit Muse
May 1-18 at 7 Stages 404-523-7647

I had to be there on May first, opening night, only ten bucks this week if you pre-order by phone (404.523.7647).

There were so many surprises. It took me a minute to realize the actors played roles that didn't look like them, a young white dude sounding like on old Black blues singer, a beautiful songstress playing a 2 minute role with the name of Stallion. What ??? I have to really pay attention here. So many characters on the bus, succulent poetry, seductive eye candy, exquisite velvet voices singing, especially Dorothy Bell and especially Jed Drummond.

Introducing the cast by way of the 5 elements distracted me at the beginning, putting me into puzzlement, but looking back, it made sense. In fact, if I could see this production 4 nights in a row, I would. There is so much to absorb, from the comfortable mundane to the downright scary monsters, from unbearable tension of culture clash to cosmic hilarity, such as the brief lawyer part. Let's all have a good laugh at our crazy humanity as we ride with the Mass Transit Muse, the honorable Mike Molina.

. In fact, go prepared to laugh. If I have one criticism of opening night, it would be the stiff audience trying to figure out what's going on so hard they missed out on the belly laughs. They should be reminded, the enlightened ones laugh and sing, like some of our spoken word activists. So lighten up, breathe air into your root, and enjoy a real time bus ride of soulful, rich and frothy poetry, silky singing, archetypal body language with New Orleans haunting the background and the Muse subversively calling us to action.
