Derrick and Xavier Molina, 14 and 11 years old, are the young musicians who provide the soundscape for the performance reading of The Second Line. Young New Orleans native musicians, Derrick plays classical, acoustic, and bass guitar while Xavier plays trumpet, drums, and acoustic guitar. Derrick had attended New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA--which produced the likes of Wynton, Brandford, and the rest of the Marsalis boys, as well as Harry Connick Jr.) for one week before evacuating the N.O. to Montgomery on August 27th, 2005, two days before Katrina. Since then, both boys have studied music fervently and performed at venues from New Orleans to Atlanta as the centerpiece of the youth band Legacy.
I am proud to have these amazing young men (Oldest sons of educator, performer and author Ayanna Fiyahflower Molina) add the fourth dimension to the five dimensional performance reading of The Second Line! See the magic of their young fire for yourself! Check back for performance dates to come soon!
